Vidyasagar Filmography
Vidyasagar has composed music for more than 200 films in all the major South languages Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam and also in Hindi. His repertoire of songs keeps increasing with each day and he is one music director who has composed almost every kind of song from simple melodies to folk to fast numbers to classical songs. One of the striking characteristics of his career has been that he sticks to quality of music in his own way, the kind of music he believes in, irrespective of the people involved in a particular project and their popularity. With him, every single movie has been an opportunity to express himself with his music.
One of the reasons why Vidyasagar was not as well known as others in the Tamil music industry for a long time was because he simply did not move away from his way of doing things and refuses to bow the pressures of delivering what the current trend demands. In spite of the skill and knowledge he commands, imitation and composing music which sounds like someone else's is simply never an option with Vidyasagar. Simplicity, innovation and originality have been a hallmark of Vidyasagar's career. As he says, "As far as music is concerned, you have to create an identity for yourself. If you are yourself, you will be accepted. I never tried to be someone else." Leaving one's stamp, composing songs which sound different and setting a trend is something that he cherishes and success had eluded him for a long time due to lack of successful films. Plainness and unassuming beauty in his songs is hard to catch in today's racy world, especially when the concerned movie fails to keep people's attention for some time.
